Banana Point is the point above the beach of the same name, on soft sand, and it is mellow and often mushy. That is not a complaint: it is exactly what makes it a place to move from whitewater to green waves.
It works at all stages of the tide, on a northwest swell with an offshore from the east-southeast. December is the month the guides publish, and the number is an honest one: clean 49% of the time and blown out the other 51%. Half of it unusable is worth knowing before booking a week around it.
It can get crowded. Rips, undertow and rocks are the listed hazards.
